If you are still in the process of raising children...be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show upon almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys, scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon & that you will-to your surprise-miss them profoundly."-President Thomas S. Monson

My birth story: The day Payton was born May 17,2005

When I woke up I was so tired but knew I had lots to do before going on my Maternity leave. But only was going in until 12 so I thought it will go by fast. I was waiting for Mike to come and get me from work to go to our last u/s appointment before Payton was born. I was leaving work a little early because I was feeling really sick. While I was putting my things away Mike called me to tell me that his truck was stalled in the intersection of my work and to see if any of my associates could help him push his truck, so I let him go and got him help. It turned out that the oil filter was not put on all the way so his truck seized up and he needs a new engine. I had my mom come and get us so we could go to our appointment Payton was doing great he showed us his practicing breathing and we discussed how the induction was going to go on the 18th. We were planning on being at the hospital at 5:30 AM on Wednesday to begin I was so nervous and praying that Payton would come on his own. We decided to go to the mall and relax for a while and spend time with Heather, Anthony and my mom. We walked the mall for 4 hours and I kept having contractions and I told Mike “baby I don’t think Payton is going to wait” he just looked at me like “yeah okay” I had to keep sitting down throughout the mall cause I was uncomfortable. We left the mall as they were getting ready to close. By the time we got home I was exhausted and ready to go to sleep, Mike decided to stay up playing video games. Little did we know that Payton was on his way and I was in labor.

At 1:36 AM I had a really hard contraction and decided to get some water and walk around, and then I decided that I was going to try and get some sleep. However that only happened for about 5 minutes I was in so much pain. I laid down to try and relax, drank water. I walked around our house and tried to do the breathing that they taught us in our Child Birth class. At 3:30 I tried to wake mike up and let him know that my contractions were getting to be 5minutes apart, he asked me “are you sure this is the real thing” I was also scared that this was “false labor” I didn't want to drive to the hospital and have them send us home. I called my mom but there was no answer so I called my sisters cell phone and told them that I was going to call my doctor and then I would call them back. With me crawling all over the floor and leaning over everything it took me a while to do so, my water broke at about 4:30 AM by this time Mike was getting up because I was crying and in so much pain my contractions were coming every 2-3 minutes and they were constant. I called my doctor and the nurse that answered the phone asked me the normal questions such as are you pregnant and so on. I told her how far apart my contractions were she told me that I needed to go to the hospital and that Dr. Pollock was on call so he would be there. I called my mom back and told them that we would be there to pick them up and I was crying because I was in so much pain. Mike was getting ready and I was crawling around to try to make sure that I had everything in my hospital bag (I thought that I would be double checking before we went in to be induced on the 18th) It was so hard to stand up to walk down the stairs it felt so much better to lean over. We finally got into the car and I was in so much pain it hurt to sit. We were on our way to pick up my mom, sister and Anthony. Every bump we hit on the way hurt so bad. My mom was worried that I would have him in the car, she kept telling me breathe, don’t push. When I was on the phone with her they were now 1-2 minutes apart. When they got in the car we flew to the hospital Mike turned on the hazard lights and was going 75 MPH I swear he couldn’t have got there fast enough. He dropped my mom and I off at the emergency entrance so he could go park the car. I was in so much pain. When we went into the emergency entrance they had a chair and I was kneeling on it while my mom was trying to get a wheel chair. The nurses helped me into the wheel chair but I swear she hit every bump on the way up to the second floor. I was admitted at 5:35 AM they put me in bed and that felt a lot better. They hooked up all the monitors and I was so happy to hear Payton’s heart beat and he was kicking like crazy. The nurse asked me a lot of questions they checked my cervix and I was at a 3 or 4 I asked her when can I get an epidural she said that she would ask my doctor and then let me know. I was so thirsty but couldn’t have anything. They were guessing that Payton would be born at or around 12:30- 1:00 PM did he prove them wrong!! I ended up throwing up due to labor and I was in need of the epidural at about 6:20 my nurse came in to check I was at 5 or 6 and she said that I could get my epidural that they would call in the anesthesiologist Mike was calling his mom and dad to let them know that Payton was on his way. My mom and sister called my dad to let him know and let the rest of the family know also. I got my epidural at about 7:40. I let my nurse know that I was still having a lot of pain on my left side. My doctor then walked in and had the nurse check me and I was at a 10 plus she told me that we are going to get ready to push. The nurse said when you have another baby when you feel the first contraction you need to get to the hospital cause you went fast. All I could think about was okay how do I push and trying to remember my breathing they had oxygen on me to help Payton. I began pushing at 8:03 AM and Payton was born at 9:16 AM. I was so happy to see him and hold him for the first time. My doctor put him on my chest and he grabbed my finger with his little hand we were all crying. I was so happy to finally meet him, they then took him to get him cleaned up and weighted him he weighted 7 pounds 2 ounces and 19 inches long. After they cleaned him up they had to get amniotic fluid out of his lungs and he wasen’t keeping his body temperature so we had to keep him under the light for a while and wrapped up. About and hour or so later we got to hold him for the first time. I was so amazed and abosolutly in love with the new little man in my life.

Payton is 6 years old today!! Holly cow, I feel old!! I read over this journal entry before posting this and I can remember everything from the nerviousness to the pain that I remember feeling. Payton has gotten so big, he is 6 but sometimes likes to think that he is 16 instead. I can't believe how fast the time has gone by and the things he has learned. He is a big brother of course and some of the things that he has taught his lil brother make me laugh. I enjoy seeing Liam mimic Payton, it makes me realize how close I hope they really are, even though they have there little fights. Payton is going to be graduating kindergarten next week and he doesn't like the thought of being in school all day he thinks it is "boring" and he just wants to be a construction worker, or a racecar/moto cross rider... he has a lot of dreams and ideas of things he can wait to do when he "grows up". But for now I love him being little and laughing at his random thoughts and things that he says. Happy Birthday Payton I love you !!
